A good ghost story is hard to resist — especially as Halloween gets closer and closer — and obviously, a cozy bonfire plays a big part in any scary tale.

But what to do if you don’t have a fire pit?

If you’re Shannon Smith, the blogger behind Burlap and Lace, you get creative and figure out how to build one with the stuff you do have. See how she built an instant bonfire for a recent backyard ghost story-telling soirée with a little help from The Home Depot.

Without a proper fireplace or pit, Shannon came up with a simple solution: filling a galvanized tub with unscented pillar candles. The shiny tub reflected the flames and kept them contained. Ingenious!

She also created a chic campfire circle with major fall feels using tons of blankets, oversized pillows, and LED lights, which provided an eerie glow as the sun went down and the storytelling started.

It’s scary how easy this is, right?
