I envy Selena Gomez in many ways (her natural good looks, her singing and acting talent, her wardrobe budget), but I do not envy her fame. While being a famous woman would certainly grant you many, many comforts in life, it also opens you up to public criticism on a grand scale. Do I want to hear what people all over the world think of how I look, act, or anything else? And to hear it echoing in my head every time I take a bite of a bacon cheeseburger? No thank you!

While Selena Gomez has tons of dedicated fans, she gets a healthy dose of criticism all along the way. And since she is, well, a woman, much of that criticism has to do with her outward appearance. Of course, as with all Hollywood stars, gossip magazines and websites love to speculate about her weight.

In response to the latest chatter, Gomez took to her TikTok stories recently to address the weight-watching critics. She details her trip to Jack in the Box, which involved tacos, egg rolls, onion rings, and a spicy chicken sandwich (a solid order). She explains that while she “tries to skinny,” she doesn’t care anymore, since people are going to complain about her weight no matter what she does.

Gomez says that people will say she is too big or too small regardless, and I have no doubt that’s true for her and other women in the limelight. If you can’t please everyone, why not enjoy the food that you love without thought? Gomez has declared her love for fast food before, enjoying a Happy Meal on Instagram and visiting McDonald’s in her Carpool Karaoke segment with James Corden (she ordered a number seven: ranch chicken BLT with fries and a drink).

“I am perfect the way I am,” Gomez says at the end of her TikTok story. “Moral of the story? Bye.”
