We Finally Know Why Rapper Saweetie’s Food Pairings Are So Bizarre: “I Got a Stomach of Steel”
In a recent episode of his Peacock talk show Hart to Heart, Kevin Hart asked rapper Saweetie the question that has been on so many of her fans’ minds: “What is going on with your system? Why the mixture of such random and crazy foods?”
Over the last few years, the Bay Area rapper has become known just as much for the food concoctions she shares via IG Live as she is for her upbeat, feel-good, party anthem songs. Showcasing pairings like ramen noodles covered in Flaming Hot Cheetos crumbs or spaghetti in ranch dressing, she has never been one to shy away from trying a new combo. And as a result, Saweetie’s eclectic videos even landed her a McDonald’s celebrity campaign last year.
As they had done with artists like BTS, J. Balvin, and Travis Scott, McDonald’s introduced the “Saweetie Meal” in August 2021. The meal offered fans the opportunity to grab the “So Icy” rapper’s custom order which included a Big Mac, 4-piece Chicken McNuggets, medium fries, a medium Sprite, Tangy BBQ Sauce, and “Saweetie’ N Sour” sauce.
“I feel like to do these things — to have the understanding that you can do these things — at some point in time, life was hard,” Hart joked after sharing a clip of Saweetie introducing fans to her unique way of doctoring grocery store ramen.
And the comedian wasn’t far off: Her culinary creativity did in fact grow out of necessity.
“When my grandma would babysit me — I got nine aunties and uncles and hella cousins — so there were always barely any groceries in the house,” the rapper admitted. “And you had to make it do what it do in the kitchen. I love food. So because I was eating the same thing almost everyday … we had to figure it out.”
While Hart joked about the effects that her food choices might have on her digestive system and asked if there’s ever been a time when she was afraid her palate would be judged by others, Saweetie took it all in stride and maintained that she’s proud of her concoctions.
And as Hart pointed out, that girl-next-door demeanor is one of the top reasons fans are drawn to Saweetie.
