From the moment I started remixing ramen noodles into gourmet meals and spending hours watching cooking shows as a puny six-year-old, I knew I found a deep passion for food. While I realized — after taking on a two-year high school internship in an award-winning kitchen — that a…read more

When Reese Witherspoon isn’t connecting with her fans around the latest books to dive into or offering up cute kitchen hacks, she’s busy brainstorming libations — specifically vino. The actress and producer just announced the rollout of Drop of Sunshine, a collection of premium wines made in collaboration with Treasury Wine Estates. The wine is sold in certain restaurants and is available at dropofsunshine.com. Luckily, we got to sample the drinks to see if they’re really worth the hype.

The line will include a California Brut Sparkling Rosé ($25), Central Coast Chardonnay ($20), and Central Coast Red Blend ($25).

This isn’t the first time that Witherspoon has dabbled in wine. In 2022, the Legally Blonde and Little Fires Everywhere actress partnered with SIMI Winery to release a fruit-forward rosé boasting notes of strawberry, citrus, white peach, and a hint of watermelon.

But with this new rollout of Drop of Sunshine on the horizon, here’s what to expect:

California Brut Sparkling Rosé

This fruit-forward sparkling rosé is 40% French Colombard, 20% Syrah, 18% Riesling, 11% Barbera, and 11% Zinfandel. The flavors involve a bright blend of berry aromas with notes of raspberries rising to the surface. It’s ideal for washing down creamy dishes or cheese. I savored a glass with a bowl of carbonara pasta, and the energetic bubbles helped wash down the subtle fat from the pasta left on my tongue.

Central Coast Chardonnay

Unlike traditional Chardonnays aged in oak, which tend to have an overly buttery flavor, this new world varietal from Drop of Sunshine leans toward a more harmonious and light finish. I unabashedly finished a whole bottle with my partner while yearning for more. It paired exceptionally with a random dinner I made one night that involved leftover Ropa Vieja nestled into steamed bao buns with pickled veggies on top.

Central Coast Red Blend

This bottle combines three varieties — it’s Pinot Noir-forward with hints of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. It offers a subtly sweet flavor with punchy fruit notes and low tannins, which gives it a smoother finish. With the weather getting chillier, it’s ideal for enjoying at a cozy gathering (dare I say book club?!) with a hearty meal like Bolognese or a plate of diri djon djon and stewed chicken

Bottom line: Because of this wine collection’s approachable and well-balanced flavors, I can definitely picture bringing it to cozy get-togethers or celebrations, where everyone would find something about one of these bottles to swoon over. The only thing missing from this line is a nonalcoholic option, which would make it the all-star libation lineup of the season.
