Today Starbucks finally unveiled its 2016 red holiday cups, and they're a little bit different from what you might have expected. In response to last year's red cup scandal, Starbucks released 13 different red cups this year, which were created by artists all over the world. The festive cups depict different scenes of the holiday season, including ornaments, snowflakes, and snow-laden trees.
In a press release Sharon Rothstein, global chief marketing officer for Starbucks, explains why they chose to have 13 red holiday cups this year: "We hope that this year's red holiday cup designs express the shared spirit of the holidays as told by our customers."
The 13 cups were actually a part of a campaign that Starbucks ran last December. Last year they asked people to share on Instagram how they decorated their plain red cups, and they received 1,200 submissions from all over the world. They choose 13 of these submissions to use for their cups this year.
