Recipe Review: Not Without Salt's Honey Herb Soda

It's the season for cool drinks and warm evenings. And Ashley Rodriquez of Not Without Salt has given us all a gift with her Honey Herb Soda. You choose whichever herbs you have on hand and go to town with a little lemon, honey, and soda water. What are you waiting for?

If you're anything like me and drink fizzy water by the bottle during the summer, this is going to be your new favorite drink. It's slightly sweet from the honey but also delightfully aromatic from the herbs and bright from the lemon. It's a keeper. The thing I love about Ashley's recipe is its simplicity: mix your herbs, using whatever you have from the garden or farmers market and you've got a new favorite summer beverage.

I also appreciate how Ashley doesn't use white processed sugar and relies on honey instead for the sweetener. For my version, I used rosemary and basil and what I'm guessing will be the last of the season's meyer lemons.

While it's lovely just as is, you could certainly make an adult version with a little gin or bourbon. As Ashley says, "If you have one of those big floppy summer hats, now would be a completely appropriate time to wear it."
