The idea of a “dry January” may sound blasphemous to some of us who relish our Friday happy hour. But if you’re like me and want to take a break from booze after the holidays, here’s a non-alcoholic sip that’s still fun to drink!

If your evening ritual includes the clink of ice cubes for a cocktail or pouring a glass of wine, taking alcohol out of the equation may seem challenging. But don’t worry — we’re not permanently teetotaling here; we’re just giving our happy hour a lighter makeover this week.

It’s simple and fun when you do in style. Go ahead and skip the booze, but keep your spirits up with a nicely polished martini glass and a cheery twist of lemon to top this delicious, bright green sip.

Kiwi-Banana Detox "Cocktail"

Serves 2 to 4

Nutritional Info

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup

    water

  • 1

kiwi, peeled and cut into pieces

  • 1

    banana, peeled and cubed

  • 1

    apple, cored

  • 2 cups

    spinach (or kale)

  • 1/2 cup

    ice

  • Lemon peels

Instructions

  1. Place the water, kiwi, and banana into a blender, followed by the apple, spinach, and ice (adding the ingredients in this order helps keep the blender from jamming up). Puree until smooth. Pour into martini glasses and garnish with lemon peels.

Recipe Notes

This makes 16 ounces, so depending on the size of your glass size, you can fill up to four martini glasses or two 8-ounce Ball jars.
