R Is for Roasted Chickpeas

Nuts usually take first place when it comes to a crunchy snack that you can pick at anytime, but we’re making the case for roasted chickpeas instead. Be it at a bar or a fancy cocktail party, roasted chickpeas can play the same role that nuts play.

A Case for Roasted Chickpeas

If you already have a can of chickpeas tucked away in your pantry, you have all the makings for this crunchy snack. Simply drain them, dry them well, toss them with olive oil and salt, and roast them at high heat for about 30 minutes. A good sprinkle of salt still makes crispy chickpeas a hit, but the best part about this snack is how versatile it is.

Sprinkle just about any mix of herbs or spices on the the beans when they come out of the oven to make your own unique “house blend” of roasted chickpeas. Try a little sweet and fragrant garam masala, woodsy rosemary and thyme, or even nutritional yeast for a Cheetos-like vegan snack.

Spices like curry powder, smoked paprika, cumin, and garlic powder are also winners. A glass of wine or a cold beer, while most definitely not necessary, is a welcome companion to the crispy chickpeas.
