I’ve had the chance to try a lot of mail-order food for The Kitchn. Anyone who knows me is aware that I’m all about convenience, so I’ve predictably become obsessed with brands like Momofuku (for restaurant-quality ramen noodles) and MìLà (for my go-to frozen dumplings) that deliver right to my door. I’ve even repeatedly ordered from my favorite New York City spots that ship nationwide, like Magnolia Bakery and Katz Delicatessen (both of which I 10/10 recommend).

That’s why I jumped at the chance to attend QVC’s Foodie Fest this past summer. There, I was able to try samples from a number of mail-order food brands in person. One of the standouts was Kansas City Steak Company. My colleague Sarah and I fell in love with the company’s offerings, including the au gratin potatoes and hot dogs. One that I’m planning on trying again for the holiday season is the two-ounce steak medallions, which are so delicious that I’d even compare them to what you can get at a fancy steakhouse. What’s more, you can score them at an extra 15% off right now with the code DEAL15 for today only!

What Are the Kansas City Steak Co. Beef Tenderloin Medallions?

Kansas City Steak Company has been working with premium suppliers on delivering top-quality beef to customers since it started back in 1932. The brand’s team is made up of seasoned master butchers, who “meticulously select, precisely cut, and carefully trim every steak for robust flavor and juiciness.” They also tailor aging techniques to each unique steak.

The filet mignon medallions are one of its most versatile items. They’re packed with flavor, despite their small size, and they’re perfect for serving a large group, whether as a main or as an appetizer. You can add them to a stir-fry or a salad, make steak kebabs, and more — their size allows for plenty of possibilities. One pack includes 28 pieces, and seasoning is included, so all you have to do is put them on the stove or grill. They arrive packaged with dry ice within two days of shipment to maintain freshness.

Why I Love the Kansas City Steak Co. Beef Tenderloin Medallions

We beelined it straight to the Kansas City Steak Company’s booth at Foodie Fest almost immediately — it smelled that good as soon as we walked into the room. As a Texas native and longtime steak-lover, I was most excited to try the medallions, which product expert and QVC on-air rep Ralph Pallarino gushed about. He says one of the things the brand likes to do is make things easy for the at-home chef, and the small size of these filet mignon pieces does exactly that, as they cook faster than a full-size cut.

It was hard to resist going back for seconds after finishing my portion in record time. It was perfectly tender, with zero fatty bits. I’ve had some expensive steaks over the years, and Kansas City Steak Company’s filet mignon ranks high among them for a much lower price. When you do the math, each piece costs under $5, which is unbelievable. I usually go for a six-ounce cut myself, so if you look at it that way, each serving is about $15. In either case, it’s a total bargain. (In my opinion, the price makes them even more impressive than a steakhouse’s). I can easily imagine a platter of these as part of a holiday dinner spread at a family gathering, so if you’re in the middle of making your meal plans, these fast-cooking, tasty beef tenderloin medallions are guaranteed to be a hit with you and your guests.
