Pumpkin Spice Lattes Are Officially Back at Starbucks for 2017
Fall has become synonymous with one particular squash-themed beverage: the Pumpkin Spice Latte. The Starbucks drink has spiked in popularity and each year fans eagerly wait to learn when the drink will make its debut. If you’ve been twiddling your thumbs waiting for your favorite coffee drink, then I have good news: Starbucks announced today that its fall menu has officially been released and it includes the Pumpkin Spice Latte, or PSL.
According to Starbucks, Pumpkin Spice Latte is their top-selling seasonal beverage of all time. The beverage hit the market for the first time back in 2003 and, since then, the coffee giant has sold more than 350 million handcrafted PSLs. Now the drink is available in almost 50 countries throughout the globe.
Starbucks notes that just like their other drinks, the PSL is customizable. Consumers can modify the recipe by adding espresso, swapping the milk options or withholding the whipped cream. Without any tweaks, the drink consists of “espresso and steamed milk with real pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove” that is ” topped with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spices.”
In August, Starbucks announced that two new Pumpkin Spice Latte products will be hitting supermarket shelves: ready-to-drink Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte and Pumpkin Spice Flavored Ground Coffee. The former “features Starbucks high-quality arabica coffee with notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove spices, and creamy milk.” The latter “features Starbucks lightest roast coffee with notes of pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg.”
PSL-themed items already have a place in supermarkets, as Starbucks has Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Caffe Latte K-Cup Pods, Starbucks Iced Espresso Classics Pumpkin Spice Latte, Starbucks VIA Instant Pumpkin Spice Latte, and Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino Chilled Coffee Drink in its grocery store lineup.
At brick-and-mortar Starbucks stores, there’s also another PSL drink on the menu: Teavana Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte. According to the company, the beverage is a “lightly sweet Chai” that “meets Pumpkin Spice to create a winning combination of flavor and comfort.”
Just remember that if you don’t feel like going to Starbucks but want to get into the fall spirit, you can always just DIY your own PSL.
