If you’re looking for a DIY candy to make this Halloween, I’ve got just the thing for you: pumpkin seed butter cups. They’re easy to make; look a little spooky (I mean, who expects to find green filling in their candy?); and best of all, eschew the traditional peanut butter, making them safe for friends with nut allergies.

You start by making your own pumpkin seed butter. Blend some shelled pumpkin seeds (pepitas) in a food processor with butter, salt, and powdered sugar. While the pumpkin seed butter is going, melt some dark chocolate.

From here, it’s super easy: Just pour a little melted chocolate into lined muffin tins, followed by the pumpkin seed butter, followed by more chocolate. Garnish with a couple pumpkin seeds and let the candy set in the freezer.

Sprinkle the finished cups with some coarse sea salt and you’ve got an impressive homemade treat.
