Finger foods like small sandwiches and sliders are some of my favorite party foods. These fun little bites are easy to throw together, and are great if you’re short on time preparing for a party. Pull-apart sandwiches in particular are great because you can customize them with whatever fillings you and your family or friends love, and make a large batch of them at once.

Businesswoman and food and home expert Martha Stewart recently shared a lovely idea for serving delicious lobster roll–inspired sandwiches using a large loaf of pull-apart rolls. Instead of slicing the rolls crosswise to add the fillings as you normally would when preparing a large batch of sandwiches or sliders, these sandwiches have slits cut into the tops of them. Each slit is then generously stuffed with a lobster roll filling. In the same week, Williams Sonoma also posted a similar version for serving lobster rolls, complete with a nice herby butter on top.

This trick not only looks really nice as far as presentation goes, but your guests also don’t have to guess what your sandwiches are filled with, as the filling is clearly peeking out of the top. You could use this same trick with any sort of sandwich filling, including crab salad, tuna salad, or shrimp salad.
