This Plant-Based Banana Split Is Made in Your Air Fryer and It Deserves All the Attention
Rarely do you find the words “air-fried” and “banana” used to describe the same tasty treat, but thanks to Jen Jones, aka the Plant-Based Queen, you’ll get just that. Kicking off the new year with a plant-based journey that sees her sharing one of her creations every day, Jones has us falling in love with her air-fried banana split recipe. And the main reason is because it contains all of the deliciousness of a traditional banana split with less of the calories.
Although there are numerous variations on the banana split (like this Banana Split Smoothie), the classic banana split is a sweet and simple dessert that the self-proclaimed Plant-Based Queen doesn’t stray from. Here’s how she makes it:
Simply slice open a banana and open it up. You’ll want to keep it in the peel as it will help hold everything together. Next, spread some natural nut butter inside and sprinkle with nuts, seeds, and 85 percent or above dark chocolate before pressing down to make sure you get everything packed in there.
Next, you’ll top it with cinnamon and air fry the banana on 400°F for 4-6 minutes. Instead of the traditional three scoops of ice cream on top, however, this version is finished off with plant-based ice cream or yogurt. Pro tip: Pour the yogurt or ice cream in the banana while it’s still hot from the air fryer so that it produces a nice messy treat that brings out the kid in you.
