Every food secretly wishes it was pizza. Or, at the very least, every kid wishes every food was pizza. Of course you know of the brilliant pizza bagel and scrumptious pizza rolls, but you may have also tasted pizza-flavored snacks like Pringles, Combos, and Goldfish, or pizza-flavored jerky (yes, really). And for some reason, there’s also pizza-flavored almonds, pizza-flavored vape liquid, and pizza-flavored ice cream. (Absolutely not.)

Now, I wouldn’t try a good portion of those pizza imposters, but every now and again a new dish that genuinely appreciates and wants to join the ranks of delicious pizza-flavored things gets my attention. This time, it’s chicken nuggets.

Last week on February 8, one day before National Pizza Day, frozen food manufacturer Tyson announced their new product: Tyson’s Pizza-Flavored Chicken Nuggets. The nuggets are made with real mozzarella and include Parmesan breading and a unique pepperoni seasoning to mimic the taste of a chicken pizza.

“We’ve been witness to the rise of chicken as a topping on pizzas at restaurants, and we know that with our chicken nugget consumers, frozen pizza is one of the fastest growing categories in the store,” says Tyson on The Feed Blog. “So, we asked the obvious: Can we combine two of America’s favorite foods, nuggets and pizza?”

“I’ll be honest. When I first heard the idea of a Pizza Nugget, I was skeptical that we could make it work,” says Shanna Motl, lead R&D scientist at Tyson Foods in the blog post. “But when we actually made the first couple batches, I couldn’t believe how good it was.”

The nuggets are already available for sale in participating Meijer and HEB grocery store locations. But if you’re on the East or West Coasts, hankering for chicken nuggets that have the delicious taste of an Italian pie, don’t worry — they’ll be sold nationwide soon.
