Ree Drummond (aka The Pioneer Woman) has an iconic kitchen. It’s light, bright, homey, and of course filled with colorful accents and butterflies. (Ree, if nothing, is always on brand). And like most kitchens you see on TV, it’s also massive. There’s plenty of counter space to prep things, and she seems to have just about every appliance and dish that you could possibly need (many of them which are probably from her own line from Walmart).

So when I had the opportunity to talk to the ranch queen herself, I had to ask: What’s her favorite thing about her kitchen? The answer might surprise you.

“My favorite thing about my kitchen is my island countertop, which is stainless steel,” Ree explains. “We redid our kitchen here in 2002, and we just went to a sheet metal place in Tulsa and had them cover the countertop in sheet metal. It’s really just the best surface on earth because you can’t hurt it. The more you use it, the prettier it gets.”

I wasn’t surprised that Ree mentioned her kitchen island, because it looks huge and has all that storage (swoon!). But I was surprised about her choice in material for her countertop. Stainless steel countertops are more common in professional kitchens versus home kitchens. I had never really noticed the material of her countertops, but I would have thought they were made out of wood or even granite. But I suppose when you’re in the kitchen as much as Ree is, it makes sense she’d go for something that was more practical and long-lasting.
