Just like Carolina Home Hacks Queen — and the majority of her two million Instagram followers — I was today years old when I learned you can pick up flour with a whisk.

Captioned “Did you know about this little hack?” the popular Australian mum of two posted a video showing how she uses a wire whisk to transfer flour from a bowl to a measuring cup. She firmly pushes the whisk into the flour and gives it a little turn to pick it up. She then removes the flour-filled whisk, carefully lifts it out, and places it in a measuring cup, where she rotates it to shake out the flour.

“Look no mess,” she writes. “It’s incredible.”

Many of her followers reacted with amazement, hearts, and clapping hands emojis. “Well, that’s awesome,” declared one commenter. “Brilliant!” someone else agreed. “Yay! No sifter to pull out of the back of the cabinet!” exclaimed another.

Others, however, had questions. “What’s the point?” asked one commenter, with another adding, “What is wrong with using a spoon?”

Among those followers who saw the usefulness of the hack were a few that shared how they use this trick for other ingredients like pancake mix or spice mixes.

Eager to give the hack a try yourself? Whip up some Extra Crispy Fried Zucchini, a made-from-scratch chicken sandwich worthy of Popeye’s, or a summery Blueberry Cake. Whether you decide to use a whisk or a spoon to scoop your flour, we guarantee the results will be delicious.
