Check your freezers — the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a recall on Friday, August 16, of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nugget and tender products produced by Perdue Foods LLC in March. These particular products have been contaminated by foreign materials and could be dangerous to consume. Because of this, Perdue Foods is issuing a recall of 167,171 pounds of their frozen chicken products to keep consumers safe.

The reason for the recall is due to customer complaints of finding metal wire embedded in the chicken products. FSIS was notified of the issue and set the recall for these particular products that were similarly produced.

According to the FSIS press release, Perdue Foods is recalling the following frozen chicken breast nugget and tender products that were produced on March 23, 2024:

  • 22-oz. (1.38-lbs.) vacuum-sealed plastic packages containing “PERDUE Simply Smart ORGANICS Breaded CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETS” with Best If Used By date of “03 23 25” represented on the back of the package.
  • 29-oz. (1.81-lbs.) vacuum-sealed plastic packages containing “PERDUE CHICKEN BREAST TENDERS with Best If Used By date of “03 23 25” represented on the back of the package.
  • 22-oz. (1.38-lbs.) vacuum-sealed packages containing “BUTCHERBOX Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets” with Best If Used By date of “03 23 25” represented on the back of the package.

These products will have the number “P-33944” on the back of the package, and have been sold and shipped to retail locations nationwide. Some of these products were also sold online directly to consumers.

As of right now, there have been no reports of injury or adverse reactions to these particular chicken products, but if you or someone you know has experienced an injury or effects from consuming one of these products, contact a healthcare provider ASAP.
