Pedialyte Has Finally Embraced the Adult Hangover

New Year’s Eve is synonymous with hangovers. You go out with your friends, drink a little too much bubbly around midnight, wake up the next morning, and, well, you probably know what a hangover feels like. It’s not fun. So, what’s your hangover cure? Do you reach for a jug of water, some Advil, and a bagel? Or do you have another trick up your sleeve?

If you have kids in the house, there’s a good chance you know about Pedialyte, a drink that is normally associated with helping kids stay hydrated, especially when they’re sick. If you’ve been using the kids’ drink as your own personal hangover cure, you’re not alone, and now the company has FINALLY acknowledged that it’s an “adult” beverage, too.

On December 19, 2018, Pedialyte published a press release touting a new product: Pedialyte Sparkling Rush Powder Packs. The product, targeted for adult use (and not to the parents of little ones suffering from dehydration) is the first indication that Pedialyte has finally embraced the adult hangover market once and for all.

The company has also been sending folks 2019-themed Sparkling Rush packs, and writing tweets announcing that Pedialyte is not just for babies anymore.

Pedialyte even has a new page on their website devoted to excessive drinkers. Under “Dehydration Symptoms and Causes,” along with “Stomach Flu” and “Exercise,” “Alcohol” gets its own category. Under a photo illustration of a man using their new powder pack product after what must have been a fun evening, Pedialyte states firmly that it’s not a hangover cure, but does maintain that it can help if you have one.

“There’s a reason so many turn to Pedialyte when they need help hydrating — it works,” said Jennifer Williams, MPH, research scientist at Pedialyte parent company Abbott in a press release. “Pedialyte is so effective because the levels of electrolytes and carbohydrate are optimal for rehydration, and now our Pedialyte Sparkling Rush powder offers a new, on-the-go option for those who love some bubble in their beverages.” Very nice use of double entendre, Williams.
