If there’s one thing I love, it’s pancakes. Whether for breakfast, a snack, or even dinner, I could eat pancakes every day if they were available. And they don’t need to be the fancy made-from-scratch versions every time, either: Give me a set of good made-from-the-box pancakes with a few fresh pieces of fruit added in the mix or on top and I’m good!

While regular-sized flapjacks are my favorite (flavored mini pancakes and Hong Kong-style French toast are also in my top list), after seeing the new trend for pancake spaghetti taking over social media, I may be changing my mind. Served up by content creator @brianaarchuleta‘s husband on TikTok, the pancake spaghetti recipe — or squiggle cakes, as he likes to call them — has set the internet on fire. And because I love trying out new spins on nostalgic eats, this was one I couldn’t resist giving a try.

How to Make Pancake Spaghetti

Making this is super-easy and it’s actually kind of fun. Once you’ve mixed your ingredients according to the instructions on the box of pancakes (or whatever pancake recipe you have of your own), pour into a zip-top bag. Seal it tightly and cut a small piece of the bag’s tip with scissors; this will create the piping-bag effect.

Next, heat a medium-sized pan — or, if you have a griddle, heat that up before adding butter. Take your zip-top bag with the pancake mix and squeeze thin layers of the mix from the bag into the pan. The video notes that while the creator’s husband does not keep the thin lines of pancake mix connected, you can if that’s your choice.

Let the pancake spaghetti fry on one side until it’s crisp and begins to bubble. Instead of flipping to the other side like you would a normal pancake, though, remove from the stove so that they don’t become too firm to have the spaghetti-like finish. Place in a bowl — adding toppings of your choice like syrup, confectioners’ sugar, and fruit for a delicious finish — and serve.

My Honest Review of Pancake Spaghetti

I love this new concept of enjoying pancakes! Although it’s just normal pancake batter, the simple spin turns it into a new take that I never would have thought of before. It’s easy to make and takes something that we all know and love and gives it an update. This new style of eating pancakes invites a wave of creativity to breakfast for me and it has me wondering what other fun things I can do to classic breakfast staples to give them a tasty refresh.

2 Tips for Making Pancake Spaghetti

  1. Use a griddle if you have one. Although it’s not necessary, I recommend using a griddle because it makes the job a lot easier. Because the goal is to have long, thin, spaghetti-like pancakes, the griddle — versus a regular pan — will help you achieve the look you’re going for.
  2. Get creative with the toppings. Looking to add the meatball effect to your pancake spaghetti? Go for chopped breakfast sausage or fruit! Make the syrup your “sauce” and turn it into a literal breakfast version of your favorite pasta.
