Padma Lakshmi’s New Show “Taste the Nation” Will Premiere in June
In case you’ve been waiting anxiously (and you probably have!) for upcoming news about Padma Lakshmi’s new Hulu show, we finally have some more details. This past weekend, Padma wrote on an Instagram post that her new show Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi will premiere on June 19 on Hulu. So yeah, summertime CANNOT come any sooner (for many reasons now). Here’s what we know so far about the show.
“We traveled across the country visiting indigenous and immigrant communities to find out what American food is today,” Padma wrote on Instagram. “The process was incredibly emotional and rewarding, a journey I will never forget.”
Padama followed up the Instagram post with a video. She said she’s been working on creating this show for a couple years now, and that she “can’t believe it’s finally happening.” We also learned that the show will be split up into 10 half-hour episodes and she will be visiting a different city in each of the episodes to explore the dining culture and to engage with the locals.
According to an announcement on TVWeb, Padma will “break bread with Americans across the nation to uncover the roots and relationship between our food, our humanity, and our history — ultimately revealing stories that challenge notions of identity, belonging, and what it means to be American.” Each 30-minute episode will begin with focusing on a single dish that was passed down through generations — this could be a household recipe or a street food spot. Padma will explore exactly how that dish has created and expanded that particular community.
I’ve never heard of anything quite like Taste the Nation, and it sounds like it’ll be a very special show. In the meantime, if you need your fill of Padma (and don’t we all?) you can catch her on Bravo on March 19 for the premiere of season 17 of Top Chef.
