No cake carrier? No problem. Here’s an easy way to keep your frosted and whip-cream-topped desserts looking as pretty as ever.

First, lay out an extra-long piece of plastic wrap on your counter. Set the cake on its plate in the centre. Insert toothpicks around the circumference of the cake and a few in the middle. Make sure there is a half inch or so of toothpick visible above the frosting or whipped cream.

Gently drape one half of the plastic over the cake, letting it rest on the toothpicks. Then drape the other half over and tuck the edges under the cake’s plate. If your plate is a little wider than the plastic wrap, criss-cross the plastic as you drape it to create some overlap.

You still need to be a bit careful as you transport or store the cake, but this wrapping will keep your cake covered and the frosting protected. Neat!
