I didn’t have a problem with the plastic containers berries were sold in for years. And then one day not too long ago, a small but significant incident happened at the grocery store with these containers that would change the way I stored my produce forever.

Quick Overview

Why is the OXO Good Grips Storage Container the best food storage container?

The OXO Good Grips Storage Container is the best food storage container for produce. It’s stackable, is designed to keep produce fresher for longer, and is made of durable materials that are long-lasting.

I stepped into Trader Joe’s for a quick grocery run of my morning essentials, which includes the aforementioned berries. As I approached the refrigerated section, I saw this scene: A guy coughed repeatedly into his hand, and then used that same set of fingers to touch multiple blueberry containers. Gross, dude.

From then on, I changed my tune. Not only did I swear to wash every perishable item that chills in my home for all eternity, but I’d also be storing these goods in their own reusable containers.

That’s where this OXO Good Grips GreenSaver Produce Keeper comes in. Ever since I bought a pair, I’m grateful that my blueberries and raspberries are clean and crisp at the start of every day. I’ve also stored other fruits inside — like perfectly cold grapes for a hot summer day, and ripe cherries for an afternoon snack — and could envision them working out well for things like carrots and celery sticks, too. Here’s why I think they’re worth the investment.

What’s So Great About OXO’s Good Grips GreenSaver Produce Keeper?

Earlier this morning, as I made my go-to oatmeal breakfast (you know me so well), I reached for this pair of produce keepers in my fridge. They were neatly stacked to one side, and since they’re clear, I could see which berry I was about to sprinkle into a bowl. I have the small containers, which hold a little more than 1.5 quarts, but they are also available in medium and large. Furthermore, if you want to store herbs or vegetables vertically, this product comes in a 2.8-quart size.

There are three main parts to this produce keeper. The first is its outer plastic shell, followed by a green hard-mesh middle where the produce sits, and finally the lid. The middle part resembles a mini colander that produce can be washed and dried in before being placed inside the protective outer shell. Inside the outer shell, the mesh middle remains elevated, making it so everything from apple slices to radish spheres continue to get the air they need to stay fresh. Another bonus? The lid also has a vent that you can slide on or off, depending on your wishes.

I’ve noticed that my berries stay fresher longer when they’re inside these containers, and I like that I have the option to throw them in the dishwasher between grocery runs. They barely take up space in my refrigerator, and they make it look more organized, too. Lastly, the produce keepers still look like new after a few months of daily use — solidifying my positive take on this purchase. If you eat berries regularly, or you simply want to ensure that your food isn’t tainted by some shopper with the sniffles at Trader Joe’s, then I highly recommend these produce keepers. They’ll give you peace of mind, and ingredients that’ll stay fresh for days.
