If you had to choose one thing (and I mean ONE thing, no cheating), what was your most favorite thing you made in 2013? A hard question, for sure, but it begs to be answered. Was it a delicious, decadent chocolate cake? Or some wildly amazing piece of meat? Some crazy breakfast dish? Here’s what The Kitchn editors have to say on this important matter.

FAITH: Some of my favorite recipes this year were actually created for The Kitchn’s cookbook (coming to your bookshelf October 2014!). There was a Peanut Butter Caramel icebox cake that was probably the best thing I put in my mouth all year, and oven-roasted lamb loin chops with Sara Kate’s chimichurri (a saucy dance party for your mouth). I also loved cooking and sharing Thanksgiving dinner with all of you this year.

CAMBRIA:
This chocolate cake with this chocolate ganache, cooked in a half-sheet pan to make a hundred little cake bites. I made it for my winter cocktail party, and it was just so delicious. The little bites are just enough to satisfy! Super yum.

ANJALI: Garlicky Grilled Kale Salad with Grilled Bread. My husband loves my (pretty healthy, often vegetarian) cooking, but I think in his dream world, I would whip up eggplant parmesan, meatball subs and other cheesy, heavy — and yes, undoubtedly delicious — meals on a regular basis. That’s not going to happen, but I did come up with this smoky, garlicky, savory grilled kale salad that he pronounced “everything I ever wanted in a salad.” And that made us both happy.

ARIEL: Hands down the best thing I made this year was a steak using the Nomiku sous vide. It was so ridiculously easy, and I’ve never tasted meat that good. Second place goes to Emma’s lemon bars which are the perfect (and addictive) summer treat.
