10 Organizers That Basically Create Storage Space Out of Nothing
If there’s one thing I understand about astrophysics, it’s that space is finite. Or is it infinite? Maybe I don’t understand astrophysics at all. But I do know that the space in my own kitchen is definitely finite. And I’m 99 percent sure that’s the case in your kitchens. Science!
So, while I love a smart organizer that helps me make the most of my space, what I really love is a smart organizer that makes MORE space. I’m talking about storage space that magically materializes out of thin air. Sounds too good to be true? It’s not!
Here are 10 organizers that do just that.
1. Umbra Float Kitchen Organizer, $15
Try to picture this: That silver box mounts to the underside of your upper kitchen cabinets. Then you push various utensils into the slot and they magically stay there — hanging, suspended in the air. And you get to toss your utensil crock or fill it up with other tools that have been cluttering up a drawer.
For most of us, that space under the kitchen sink is just a wasteland of cleaning supplies that we can’t really see. This adjustable shelf can be configured to work around your existing plumbing and creates a second tier for easy access.
3. Simple Houseware Shelf Risers, $16 for two
Sure, you can stack bowls on top of your plates in an upper cabinet, but what happens when you need a plate? You have to lift all the bowls or take them out. No, thank you! These super-sturdy shelf risers give you extra space for dishes or ingredients and can be used next to each other or in separate cabinets.
4. DecoBros K-cup Storage Drawer, $20
If you have a Keurig coffee maker, this is the solution you’ve been looking for. It sits underneath your machine (using space that was already spoken for, anyway) and holds up to 36 pods.
5. Wallniture Wine Glass Hanger Rack, $16 for two
Like the first organizer on this list, these racks get mounted under your upper cabinets. They hold up to 18 glasses and free up cabinet space. Don’t drink wine? You can still steal the idea and install screw-hooks under your cabinets to hold mugs or tea cups.
This paper towel holder takes things to the next level because it also has a shelf for little bottles of oils or spices. Mount it on a free wall or even on the inside of a cabinet (if your paper towels aren’t out in plain sight, you might find that you reach for them less often).
Need more space? Look up — like, way up. Chances are, you’ll find some free space on your ceiling. While there are loads of pot racks out there, this one isn’t too big but still offers lots of bonus storage.
8. Bellemain Bamboo Dish Rack, $14
Can’t devote the counter space to a dish rack? Pull this out when you need a place for just-cleaned plates and then fold it up for storage. Now you see it, now you don’t.
Your fridge has to be there regardless. Instead of wasting that space with yet another finger painting (sorry, Timmy!), stick one of these magnetic racks to the side of your fridge and you’ve got an instant shelf.
10. DoorStore Chop, $20 at Joseph Joseph
Cutting boards seem easy enough to store, until they start toppling over or getting in the way of other tools. This brand new solution from Joseph Joseph comes with a holder, which mounts to the inside of a cabinet door. And while I’m generally pretty against storing things here (see: The Supposedly Brilliant Kitchen Hack I Didn’t Love and Immediately Undid), this product is pretty brilliant and perfect.
