To kick off the July 4th holiday weekend, Oprah Winfrey invited her followers into her kitchen to share what she was feeding her guests. Aside from the oversized sandwiches from Daybird in Los Angeles, there were a lot of design elements we couldn’t help but admire. Our favorite detail? The curtains hanging underneath her kitchen sink.

Oprah’s cabinetry is cohesive around her entire kitchen, offering ample hidden storage for everything she (or her personal chefs) needs to cook up. However, the genius who designed the space strategically opted to leave her under-the-sink-area cabinet door-less. Instead, a custom curtain hangs in the space, adding a touch of vintage charm to the area.

There are various ways you can use curtains for storage in your kitchen. Not too long ago, Jennifer Garner showed off her own clutter-concealing curtains that hung inside of her upper glass cabinets.

Not only is choosing to use curtains instead of (or to cover) cabinetry an aesthetically-pleasing move, but it can also be a cost-efficient way to add a little design detail in your space while creating hidden storage for all the pots, pans, and dishes you want to conceal. And it’s a great option for renters who want to hide unsightly cabinets, too.

So next time you find yourself doing a redesign of your kitchen cabinets, consider removing the cabinet doors underneath your sink altogether and adding in a curtain of your choosing. Storage, but make it elegant.
