Oprah can do no wrong in my book. I love how she used to give out cars to everyone in her audience and how the products featured in her magazine are almost always life-changing. I even love how she celebrates her birthday. But I recently saw her do something that’s been bugging me. I don’t know why it bothers me so much (so much that I feel the need to write a post about it!), but it does. Probably because it makes zero sense.

She currently stars in a commercial for WW Freestyle (a new plan by Weight Watchers) and has a bunch of people over for taco night. Turns out, Oprah loves taco night — and guacamole. Maybe almost as she loves bread!

What does she do that’s so strange? Before she cuts her avocado in half (per the usual way of cutting into an avocado), she apparently chops off one of the ends. We don’t see her do it but the camera cuts to this shot where the end is very clearly missing! Here, she’s cutting the avocado vertically around the pit the way most people would usually do.

We see her with the avocado a second time in the commercial (she’s holding both halves and they clearly have truncated ends!) but we never see the avocado again so we don’t know what does with it. Why? Why, cut that part of the avocado off, Oprah?

Does she need the halves to stand up on their own for some sort of awesome plating presentation? Maybe the end on that particular avocado was super spoiled? Did she use the ends for something else? Does she know something we don’t know about the ends of avocados? Maybe Oprah just prefers flat edges? We will probably know never the answer — unless you have some intel or guesses?

Do you have a logical explanation? Should we all start cutting our avocados Oprah-style? Discuss!
