There’s an Official ‘Great British Bake-Off’ Musical Hitting the Stage This Summer
The Great British Bake-Off is serving us the musical we didn’t know we needed. The long-running baking show competition has announced a musical spin-off of the hit reality TV show set to premiere at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham, England this summer.
The cast for The Great British Bake-Off: The Musical hasn’t been announced, but we know that the story will focus on eight bakers, two judges, and two presenters and will feature 18 original songs written by Pippa Cleary and Jake Brunger that were inspired by the competition. And if you’re worried about this production not being its best, knowing that it is created in association with the reality TV show’s executive producer Richard McKerrow might provide a bit of reassurance.
A musical, however, is just the icing on the cake for the award-winning baking show franchise. Running since 2010 and airing in many countries, the beloved series also gave rise to international versions — entertaining baking fans from Brazil to Belgium — and has inspired its fair share of baking competitions including those from Martha Stewart, Giada de Laurentiis, and two of SNL‘s biggest stars.
According to the theater’s site, the musical will center around “the trials and tribulations of our bakers, all with their own stories to tell and as unique from one another as their marvelous baked creations.” As far as what to expect from the production, the site also notes that the story will be full of “heartwarming characters, ounces of laughter and mouthwatering music in this brand-new and original British musical, suitable for the whole family.”
Great British Bake-Off: The Musical will run from July 22 to August 6 with more information about showtimes and tickets, which are on sale now, found on the Everyman Theatre site.
