Frozen Negroni

As soon as I saw the Ninja SLUSHi in action, I knew that it would be a popular new appliance — but even after five years as a shopping writer and editor, I did not foresee that it would sell out instantly and then sell out within hours of restocking again and again. Ninja is known for making unique, high-quality appliances, like the Ninja CREAMi, which usually trends on Amazon and Walmart when it’s on sale. The SLUSHi is Ninja’s newest addition to its “i” collection. The SLUSHi can whip up slushies (both non-alcoholic and alcoholic), milkshakes, and frozen coffee concoctions.

As someone who used to help serve slushies at a movie theater, I know first-hand how finicky those machines can be. When I saw the Ninja SLUSHi demoed, I almost thought it was too good to be true, so I decided to test it out in our office and throw a summer happy hour. I figured that would be a great way to put the machine through its paces and see if it could handle churning out multiple rounds of slushies quickly.

What Is the Ninja SLUSHi?

The Ninja SLUSHi was released mid-July as the ultimate summer entertaining assistant. This 200-watt machine is 16.28” long, 6.52” wide, and 16.92” tall. It weighs a little more than 24 pounds, so it can be a bit difficult to lift. The biggest selling point of this machine is that you don’t need buckets full of ice to make your slushies. The SLUSHi has RapidChill Technology. The spinning compressor will chill your liquid, even if it contains harder-to-freeze alcohol, to your desired frozen consistency. There are five pre-set settings on the SLUSHi, including slushie, spiked slush, frappe, milkshake, or frozen juice. And if the settings aren’t helping you get what you want, you can also adjust the temperature on the side of the machine to make the consistency perfect. There’s an easy-to-control spout that’ll let you dispense slushies with ease, and a drip tray underneath to catch any stray slushie. When it comes to cleanup, you can dismantle the machine within seconds. The top plastic parts are hand-washable, and you just need to wipe down the compressor after use.

Why I Love the Ninja SLUSHi

Honestly, I had never hosted a happy hour with specialty drinks for my entire office, so I was a bit intimidated using the SLUSHi at first. Thankfully, the Ninja SLUSHi also comes with a handy recipe book, so I picked Ninja’s Frosé, which called for four ingredients. The ingredients just needed to be measured and stirred together before being poured into the machine, and then literally 45 minutes later I had 10 servings of frosé ready to serve. Once that first round of frosé had disappeared, I immediately started on the second batch, which was ready within 20 to 30 minutes. This was faster than the Ninja SLUSHi guide had said (they said it might take up to one hour), so I was thrilled. Overall, the recipe was a big hit, and the machine was so easy to use. If you gave me the choice between using the SLUSHi machine or making 15 cocktails for guests at a party, I’d pick the SLUSHi any day of the week. It takes some of the stress out of entertaining. It’s a set-it-and-forget-it appliance that also has a wow factor. Did I mention it’s super easy to clean?

Although, to be honest, it isn’t the most practical appliance for small-space-dwellers with limited kitchen counter space like myself, it is perfect for people who love to entertain and have enough space to store or display the Ninja SLUSHi.
