New from Mark Bittman: How to Cook...Something

Following Mark Bittman's advice to "Think of things you really like and cook those," Emily Weinstein (the blog's producer) is stepping up to the stove! She's documenting her learning experience in the series "How to Cook...Something" on the Bitten blog. Hear more after the jump!

So far Weinstein has attempted two dishes: Curried Squash Soup with Frizzled Leeks and a whole broiled fish. In the first, she realizes that she doesn't quite have the right equipment for the job - a perennial problem of ours when we first started cooking, too! The broiled fish seemed like it went off without a hitch, despite a nasty-sounding burn from the oven door. Welcome to the kitchen, Ms. Weinstein!

We like Weinstein's fresh and honest descriptions of her cooking. It's approachable and - even better - doable. It sounds like she's relaxed about her triumphs and roadblocks, learning as she goes, and having fun at the same time.

Skip on over to the Bitten blog to read her exploits. And let us know - what was the first dish you remember cooking?!
