These Healthy Snacks Are a Staple in the Kitchn Office and My Home — and I Got You 45% Off
Ever since we transitioned to WFH, I have been struggling to create a snack situation that equates the savory, salty, sweet paradise we had at the Kitchn office. Variety aside, the snacks were always delicious and satisfying without being greasy. I do have a few favorite fail-proof options at the moment, but as a serious snacker, I’m always on the lookout for more. So when I found out that NatureBox, the company that fuels Kitchn staffers, also runs a subscription program, I had to sign up STAT. It’s been a month since my first box was delivered to my doorstep and well…I have some serious thoughts. For starters, why didn’t I discover them earlier?!
How NatureBox Works?
While NatureBox is primarily a subscription-based snack service, they also offer one-time snack purchases. But I found that their subscription model gives you the most bang for your buck. For an annual fee of $30, you get total access to all their sweet and savory snack options at a discounted price, with an additional 5 percent off every order. Oh, and did I mention there’s no shipping fee? Since their snacks are a staple at the Kitchn office, I have had the opportunity to taste test almost everything, so I knew what I wanted to pack in my box. But if you’re new to the service, NatureBox also offers a variety of pre-packed snack boxes that save you the hassle of sifting through their deliciously exhaustive inventory.
It All Comes Down to Taste
Now that we’ve established how NatureBox works, it’s time to get to the good stuff: the taste test! Since NatureBox creates its own snacks, everything is free of hydrogenated oils, corn syrup, artificial flavors, sweeteners, or colors. The company also avoids packing its snacks with preservatives, fats, salts, and sugars. Instead, it relies on natural ingredients to make the flavors come through. And come through they do! For instance, the lentil chips (my favorite!) are dusted in spice blends like jalapeño powder, aged cheddar, and smoky BBQ, but you can still taste the distinct earthy lentil flavor in the fusilli-shaped chip. And unlike store-bought dried fruit that tends to be too leathery in texture or too sugary, NatureBox’s dried fruits are moist and pliant in just the right way. But the winner has to be their unusual yet delightful cookie flavors: lemon turmeric, peanut butter maca, and crispy coconut, to name a few. NatureBox also stocks trail mixes, nuts, popcorn, jerky, and even surprisingly delicious pre-prepared oatmeal, which was my go-to breakfast at office.
Is NatureBox Worth it?
If, like me, you regularly shop for healthful snacks, you probably know the cost can add up quickly. In comparison, NatureBox offers delicious, high-quality options for almost half the price. The portion sizes are generous, and my stash of approximately 15 varied snacks have lasted me almost a month, which is impressive, since I’m an avid snacker and also happen to live with one! NatureBox also uses multi-serving containers so there is a lot less wasteful packaging that ends up in the landfill. Plus, the snack options are fun, which is a huge factor when snack shopping. There’s truly a lot to choose from, so while I’ll be sticking to a few favorites (BBQ lentil chips, I’m talking to you!), I’m also excited to mix it up and test out some new options next month.
Try It, You’ll Like It!
I think I finally figured out my snack situation for the rest of the year! If you’re interested in trying out NatureBox as well, they’re currently offering 45 percent off all first orders for Kitchn readers, along with a 30-day free membership with code NATUREKITCHN45. My only regret when it comes to NatureBox? That I have to share it with someone. Seriously, this stuff is that addictive!
