Nancy Meyers’ Real-Life Kitchen Is Even Dreamier than the Ones in Her Movies

If you’re anything like me, you spend hours days fantasizing about living in a home with a kitchen worthy of a Nancy Meyers film. You know, rolling out chocolate croissants like you’re Meryl Streep in It’s Complicated on your well-floured, endless kitchen island, or whipping up late-night pancakes in your spacious Hamptons home like you’re Diane Keaton in Something’s Gotta Give.

Well, apparently there’s a reason all of the kitchens (and the houses in general) in her movies are so bright, open, and roomy — they look exactly like her real-life kitchen. How do I know? Nancy herself shared a photo of her own cook space on Instagram, and it’s … I’m still taking it in, let’s say that.

Naturally, she calls it “headquarters” in her caption. The kitchen is the heart of the home, and with one like this, it’s hard to imagine her spending time in any other room. Anyway, onto the elephant in the (white, airy) room: her two islands. Two! I have a galley kitchen that’s more like a postage stamp with a mini fridge; she has endless counter space for sitting, eating, prepping, cooking, and planning her next rom-com (please, I beg). It’s honestly better than anything I’ve ever seen in a Meyers film, and that includes Nick Parker’s Napa kitchen in The Parent Trap. Imagine how many sourdough loaves or banana breads you could make on those things!

Beyond that, she has a mix of simple and classic white Shaker-style cabinets and cabinets with frosted glass panes, a marbled backsplash, striking white light fixtures (this similar one from Crate & Barrel has a more modern feel), two (!) ovens, and charmingly casual dark wicker chairs — if the stools at island number one aren’t your style — among many other things. It’s all extremely comfortable feeling, with a homey dash of modern country style.

It’s just as hard to pick a favorite detail as it is to pick a favorite Nancy Meyers movie; the sum is a wonderful compilation of its parts. And just in case there was any doubt, she confirmed in an Instagram comment that this gorgeous space was, in fact, the inspiration for the kitchen in Something’s Gotta Give. If only art imitating life could always be this beautiful.

Here’s hoping Nancy will spend quarantine sharing more photos of her beautiful home.
