As much as I’d like to say I always cook my chickpeas from scratch, that’d be a lie. Yes, you can’t beat the flavor of a pot of chickpeas that has slowly simmered on the stove all afternoon, but frankly, I usually don’t have the time or the foresight for that. More often than not, I am digging through my pantry for a can of chickpeas to toss together a quick meal after a busy day — and I always reach for the same brand.

Why Goya Is Better than All the Rest

Yep, those cans of Goya always deliver. For years I thought that, given the price (they are by far the cheapest canned beans on the shelf), they were probably inferior to the fancy organic and imported brands. But after tasting my way through some of the most popular brands, Goya proved that it’s as dependable as it is affordable.

The beans are always bigger than the rest and lack that weird tin flavor that is so common with beans from a can. They’re nutty, tender, salted to perfection, and the closest you’ll come to dry chickpeas cooked on the stove without having to deal with soaking and simmering. Now all you have to do is put them to use.
