Are you ready for the holiday cookie baking bonanza to begin? Because we are. At Kitchn, if Thanksgiving is our Super Bowl, then holiday cookie baking season is our OLYMPICS. We've got our baking sheets, cooling racks, piping bags, sprinkles, sanding sugars, and cookie tins on deck and ready to go — do you?
To help you all decide exactly what to bake this year, we did some reconnaissance and asked our friends at Pinterest what holds the title as the most popular cookie on the entire site. And to be honest, we were kind of surprised by the results! Drumroll please...
My theory is that every single person who is pinning these cookies has been hypnotized by the swirly, M&M and mini white chocolate chips-dotted mixing bowl of batter — isn't it dreamy? That and the fact that all you have to do with said batter is spread it out in one layer on a baking dish and toss it in the oven for 35-40 minutes can't hurt either!
The best part is that you probably have most of the ingredients necessary to whip these up in a jiffy — with the exception of the Christmas-colored M&Ms. All you need is two sticks of butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, three eggs, vanilla extract, all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, M&Ms, mini chocolate chips, and white chocolate chips. I happen to think using regular old M&Ms, if you have them, would be very festive as well.
This recipe is a great option when your kids spill the beans that their holiday bake sale is, surprise, TODAY or when you totally forgot about your office cookie swap. It's kind of like an M&M cookie meets a blondie meets a cookie cake and we're here for it.
All in favor of a cookie recipe that does not require 24-hour freezing, perfectly rounded dough balls, and extensive decoration say aye. AYE!
