This “Delicious” New Butter Makes Everything It Touches Taste Amazing (It Rivals Ina Garten’s Favorite!)
I’ve had my fair share of plant-based butters, and they can be pretty hit or miss. Too oily, lackluster flavor, doesn’t melt properly … I’ve seen it all. Then, a few years ago, a friend introduced me to Miyoko’s Creamery, and I haven’t looked back since.
Miyoko’s Creamery first came on the dairy-free butter scene in 2016 with the launch of its European-style Plant Milk Butter. From the first taste, I was all in. Made with coconut oil and cashew milk, Miyoko’s butter effortlessly mimics the taste, consistency, and spreadability of dairy butter. (Try it in your next batch of chocolate chip cookies.)
So when I got word that the brand was launching a new line of flavored butters, (Salted, Cinnamon Brown Sugar, and Garlic Parm), I knew I had to get my hands on some to taste them for myself.
What You Should Know About Miyoko’s Creamery Oat Milk Butter Garlic Parm
Unlike Miyoko’s OG European-style butter, the new flavored butters contain sunflower oil and oat milk and are made using traditional creamery methods to mimic the smooth texture of dairy butter. All of the brand’s products are certified USDA organic, and free of dairy, palm oil, lactose, soy, and gluten.
Miyoko’s Creamery Oat Milk Butter Garlic Parm gets a punch of flavor from garlic powder, garlic oil, nutritional yeast, mushroom extract, and salt. It’s sold in tubs rather than sticks, so it’s easier to spread. (There’s nothing worse than trying to spread cold butter on toast and tearing the bread.)
The butter launched in July and is available at Whole Foods and Kroger nationwide for $4.99 (price may vary per retailer).
My Honest Review of Miyoko’s Creamery Oat Milk Butter Garlic Parm
While I love all types of butter, I don’t often buy flavored butters — so I was excited to experiment with this one. I opened the tub and was immediately hit with a garlicky aroma. The Garlic Parm butter is a tan, yellowish color with little green flecks throughout (thanks to the parsley).
First, I tried it on a piece of sourdough toast. I smeared on a generous amount and watched as the butter melted beautifully, becoming a more golden, amber color. I took a bite and got that satisfying richness Miyoko’s has mastered — with an added garlicky, cheesy flavor.
The garlic flavor is prominent, but not overpowering; it has the subtlety of garlic powder (rather than fresh cloves). The nutritional yeast provides a cheesy, umami tang (tasting more like the stuff you’d find in a shaker can than fresh Parmesan). It definitely elevated my morning toast and would be a delicious accompaniment to a warm bowl of soup. You could also smear some on a baguette and have garlic bread in next to no time.
Next, I tried it over green beans. Instead of sautéing them with freshly chopped garlic, salt, and pepper, and maybe a splash of soy sauce, like I usually do, I skipped all that extra prep and plopped them in a pan with a generous pad of butter. (Spoiler: I wasn’t let down.)
The melted butter coated the green beans and created a creamy sauce. Once again, they were garlicky and cheesy, and (bonus!) saved me from extra chopping and measuring (and having my fingers smell like garlic for the rest of the evening).
It was so flavorful that I’ve already thought of a million different ways to use it. Currently, I’m debating between melting some over rice for an easy side dish or turning some leftover pizza dough into two-ingredient garlic knots. Maybe both!
