Milk Bar’s Christina Tosi Delivers Some Sweetness with Free Live Baking Classes on Instagram
When it comes to sweet treats, Milk Bar’s B’Day Truffles, Compost Cookies, Cereal Milk Soft Serve, and many other delights have made a lasting impression on the dessert landscape. And now the mastermind behind Milk Bar’s culinary confections, founder Christina Tosi, is inviting us to bake alongside her in her new Instagram Live cooking series, Baking Club.
Daily, at 2 p.m. ET, Tosi will livestream free baking classes via her personal Instagram account. So far there have only been two videos, but both of them are seriously lively and joyous, and you can feel Tosi’s infectious energy as you follow along step-by-step. Tosi will even let you in on some of her favorite baking tips and tricks, like using the leftover butter wrapper to grease the pan. Needless to say, we’re already hooked.
Many of the ingredients you may already have at home, but Tosi posts the ingredients you’ll need a day in advance so you can gather your supplies — and start making guesses of what you’ll be baking. So far, she has whipped up four-ingredient sugar cookies and oat cookie bars, which can still be watched on IGTV or you can find the recipes on her website if you like the ease of seeing a recipe out in front of you.
Tosi has also been quite active on her YouTube account, delivering fresh content with short videos and recipes for cornflake marshmallow chocolate chip cookies and the secret behind the infamous Cereal Milk. Are you salivating yet?
Before social distancing times, Milk Bar regularly hosted classes in New York, Los Angeles, and D.C., and although they were rather pricey, they were also the perfect activity to do with friends or your significant other to try your own hand at their famous cakes and pies. While those are currently postponed for the time being, you can also make Milk Bar’s signature treats at home, too. Full recipes of Milk Bar’s most popular offerings are available online for free. Though, if you want to leave it to the professionals, Milk Bar is still shipping nationwide, or make use of delivery partners if there is a Milk Bar in a city near you for those gotta-have-it-now moments.
If baking isn’t quite your thing, there are plenty of other cooking classes that are free or at lower cost happening right now. We’re particularly fond of this class from am 84-year-old Italian grandma who will teach you how to make pasta from scratch (just $50!). All in all, this time at home has definitely gotten us experimenting more around the kitchen; we may even start to feel a bit like Ina Garten. What will you be making today?
