The $18 Cleaning Tool Everyone Seriously Needs to Own
I’m not someone who actively looks for the latest and greatest cleaning tools. I tend to just stick to the stuff I have — the stuff I know gets the job done. But recently, I came across this dusting tool on Instagram. The post was suggesting that you could use it to clean between the glass panes of your oven door, which I badly needed to do. So I was very excited to try out this hack. Sadly, it didn’t work for me. I couldn’t get the duster in far enough to easily move it around. Had I just wasted $18? I had not!
For everyday jobs, I’m a fan of using a regular ol’ microfiber cloth with water to wipe down blinds, trim, and other common surfaces. But there are a few wildly dust-ridden areas of my home I’ve neglected — underneath the stove, on top of the fridge, and on ceiling trim and molding — because they’re just hard to reach. Until, that is, I found the E-Cloth Cleaning & Dusting Microfiber Wand, the under-$20 solution to all my dusting problems.
It slides right under my kitchen appliances and under heavy, unmovable furniture, like buffets and dressers. (In ways my Swiffer can’t. Plus, the microfiber cloth makes it a more environmentally friendly choice. For normal, everyday use, you can simply rinse the cloth, or you can machine-wash it with your normal detergent — just don’t use too much, or you could damage the cloth and make it less effective.) It reaches way up into the corners of my ceilings and on top of my fridge. And it can be bent to grab the dust off my ceiling fan blades.
My one criticism of the wand goes back to the original problem I had with it: It’s a little thicker than I’d like, so it might not slide under appliances if they’re too low to the ground. (And it might not fit between your stove glass, either). Some Amazon reviewers say it’s flimsier than they thought, but I haven’t noticed that.
But for me, the uses are versatile enough that it’s worth the price — especially because I’m no longer neglecting areas that I used to just flat-out ignore.
