This Melted Pot Disaster Is Proof That Some Roommates Can’t Be Trusted
No matter how messy your kitchen gets this holiday season, you’re probably still a few steps away from having the worst kitchen mess of all time, thanks to one Twitter user’s roommate who took the honor.
“In case you ever think your roommate is dumb… let me one up you,” tweeted Anie this week, along with two photos of what she had apparently just walked in and discovered in her shared kitchen. On an electric stove, with the drip trays lined with aluminum foil, a pan appears to have melted and sunken down into the coils. The pan looks cracked and misshapen, with a layer peeling off, as well as what very well may be the lid stuck down inside of it. It’s almost like the coils have entirely fallen away and looks as if the scene is some sort of abandoned archaeological dig.
In later tweets, the original poster admits that she doesn’t have any actual idea what happened and that the roommate in question has yet to explain the cause of the messy situation. The most likely explanation, however, is that a cheap pan was forgotten on a hot stove until all the liquid evaporated then got too hot and melted into the stove. However, absent of any confirmation on the real cause, the Twitter peanut gallery had a field day. “Have you tried putting it in rice?” asked one person, “I’m no expert, but I’d say that soup is done,” said another. One person noted its resemblance to the bread found in the historic volcanic ruins of Pompeii (an actual archeological dig).
The follow-up comments on other people’s worst cooking disasters by roommates are well worth a stop and scroll, but the real lesson to take away from all of this is that a watched pot never boils itself into the stovetop. All we can say is thank goodness this didn’t happen on a gas stove.
