This $20 TikTok Solution Will Help Organize Your Rolls of Plastic Wrap, Foil, and More
I try to be as organized as I can. Between getting rid of cookware I no longer need and making over my boyfriend’s junk drawer, I pride myself on being tidy. But my collection of plastic wrap, foil, and zip-top bags has been a disaster for as long as I’ve been cooking. If you can relate to this situation (and I bet you can!), you’re going to want to read about this simple solution I discovered on TikTok.
Ready? Check out this video from @aspireorganizing (pro organizer Tasha Saavedra, in real life).
The video is part of a series in which Saavedra, who owns Aspire Organizing, tackles her brother’s disorganized kitchen. After whipping his corner cabinet into shape and tackling his water bottle collection, Saavedra made sense of his plastic wrap drawer.
To be honest, I had several stashes of plastic wrap and aluminum foil hidden in a number of places. What started as one drawer ballooned to three random areas in my kitchen as my collection grew. Between the foil, the freezer bags, and the reusable beeswax wrap, I just had way too much stuff to keep in a single drawer or cupboard.
Saavedra’s brother kept all of his in one deep drawer, which was just as inefficient — it required digging around and took up valuable real estate. So Saavedra invested in a clever product: mDesign’s adhesive storage bins. She attached them to the back of cabinet doors, then stored the rolls and boxes vertically. Boom. It was so smart!
Feeling inspired, I ordered two sets of organizers but when they arrived I realized a flaw in this plan: There was no room to attach the mDesign storage bins to my cupboard doors because I’d used that space for my cookware lids. Thankfully, I found an even better solution.
I stuck the mDesign bins on the walls of my catch-all cleaning closet, which is located right next to the garage door in the kitchen. I use it to store cleaning supplies, my vacuum, broom, and trash bags, so it had never occurred to me to make use of the empty wall space. There was a lot of space so it was the perfect place for managing my plastic wrap and foil — and now I had the convenient organizers to do it.
I stuck three of the four bins on the walls, being mindful to leave enough space in between for the tall boxes. They looked so good once they were filled with my rolls and boxes of foil, baggies, and parchment paper. And after just one day of using the new system, I realized how much more efficient the whole setup was.
I attached one bin to an inconspicuous spot in the kitchen, on the outside of a cupboard. That turned out to be the perfect place for keeping my extra dishcloths and towels.
Even now, more than a year later of using this system, I’ve gotta hand it to Saavedra for the product recommendation for an organizational strategy that’s both aspirational and attainable!
