Martha Stewart’s Peanut Butter and Jelly Bars Are the Nostalgic Treat You’ve Always Dreamed Of
Peanut butter and jelly is among the most classic of quick lunches and afternoon snacks for children and busy adults alike. Over time, we’ve found so many ways to enjoy this tasty combination, from icebox cookies to Ina Garten’s perfect peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
Since this flavor combination is one we never can quite get enough of, it only makes sense that Martha Stewart found a way to make it even better. Peanut Butter and Jelly Bars are a delicious way to indulge while on a break at work or between errands on a busy day.
These deliciously nostalgic treats are surprisingly simple to make, and begin with preheating an oven to 350°F before greasing a pan that is then lined with parchment paper. Then, start your batter by blending sugar and butter in a mixer, and adding in eggs and peanut butter, continuing to beat for a few minutes. Meanwhile, you’ll whisk flour, salt, and baking powder and add that to the mixer. Finally, add vanilla to complete your batter.
From that point, you’ll begin transferring some of the mixture to a pan and spreading jam on top, before adding the rest of the peanut butter batter on top of the jam. Sprinkling peanuts on top is next and as Martha notes, you’ll want to do so evenly so that they cover up every bit of jam. The bars will be baked for about 45 minutes, and then cut into squares to enjoy with a cold glass of milk or perhaps a steaming hot cocoa.
The fun part of this recipe is that it can easily be customized to the type of peanut butter and jelly you most enjoy. If you want that to be apricot, strawberry, or grape, it’ll work fabulously here. And, the peanut butter can also be your favorite flavor or variety. You can even get a bit creative and swap out peanut butter for Nutella and make the jelly a raspberry or strawberry one. Honestly, the options are truly endless!
