Baking is a science, as much as it is an art, and when working in your laboratory (which you may also call your kitchen), you definitely want to use the best ingredients possible. If you’re looking to enhance the flavor of your baked goods, you’ll need to have a great vanilla extract on hand. One of our favorite brands, Nielsen-Massey, produces some of the most gourmet vanilla products you can buy, but the price tag tends to be on the higher side. However, Marshalls is now selling the brand’s iconic Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract for an amount that had us doing a double take.

You can grab a bottle of the vanilla extract at Marshalls for $12.99 per bottle. For comparison’s sake, Amazon is selling the extract for $19 while Williams Sonoma is asking for $25. According to the brand’s website, this vanilla extract is crafted from hand-selected beans from Madagascar, also known as the planet’s leading supplier of high-quality vanilla.

“Our proprietary cold extraction process gently draws out and preserves the vanilla’s more than 300 flavor compounds, resulting in a flavor profile that’s full, sweet, creamy, and mellow with velvety after-tones,” reads the website. “Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Extract is the perfect all-purpose vanilla for its flavor and consistency in both hot and cold applications.”

While baked goods like cakes, cookies, and pastries are likely what comes to mind when you think of vanilla extract, this particular one is also suitable for savory recipes like sauces, soups, and marinades. You can also add a few drops to some hot chocolate for extra flavor or use as a deodorizer for your refrigerator by soaking a cotton ball in the vanilla. If you’re searching for proper measurements, one tablespoon of vanilla extract is equivalent to one tablespoon of vanilla pasta, one tablespoon of vanilla powder, or one vanilla bean.

With a price tag like this one, adding some gourmet staples to your pantry has never been so easy.
