There’s a new cooking app on the horizon that has grabbed our attention. And it’s not just because it was created by Mario Batali.

Now let’s just start by mentioning that the Mario Batali app, at $9.99, isn’t cheap as far as apps go. That being said, if you consider what you might spend on a new cookbook you’re excited about, we think it’s worth every penny. First, Batali has developed all of the content himself and supplements the 63 Italian recipes with technique videos, great static images, and built-in timers (very handy). Sure, there are the usual helpful bits such as a glossary or information on food pairings, but we particularly loved how users can browse recipes by region in Italy and can also bookmark certain dishes or information to flip back to with ease.

As Batali says, “This app allows me to get as close as I’ve ever been to personally cooking with you in your kitchen. So grab some extra-virgin olive oil, and let’s cook some great food!!” Have you used this app? What are your favorite cooking apps right now &mdash the ones you rely on heavily?
