Summer is here, and all baking fans know what that means — pies, pies, and more pies! Oh, and cobblers and crisps, too. Now is the perfect time to whip up any gooey, crusty, fruity dessert you love for every picnic and block party on your calendar this summer. The only necessity? Some center stage-worthy baking gear.

Enter: Made In’s Baking Slab. Designed in collaboration with top-notch pro chef Nancy Silverton, this innovative piece is basically a fusion of several go-to baking vessels, including a pie dish, sheet pan, and baking dish. The result? A totally unique design you’ll find yourself turning to time and time again as you churn out berry cobbler and slab pie throughout the season.

The idea for the Baking Slab all started out of necessity. As the face behind famed restaurants Osteria Mozza, Pizzeria Mozza, and others, Nancy Silverton knows a thing or two about bakeware. Throughout her career, she struggled to find a piece of gear that helped her achieve the perfect crust-to-filling ratio on her favorite slab pies. It needed to have high walls and a large surface area to ensure everyone would get a decent slice — something that most traditional pie plates and sheet pans just don’t offer. So, as longtime fans and collaborators, Made In, stepped in to design something to her exact specifications.

This stunning piece launched to a ton of fanfare late last year, quickly selling out at a record pace of fevered bakers looking to get their hands on something fresh and new. The Baking Slab is made using the same French-made porcelain that Made In uses for their line of classic baking dishes, with a creamy white glaze and hand-painted rim (in your choice of blue or new cherry red). The porcelain is naturally nonstick (meaning no caramelized crust left behind!), durable, and thermal-shock resistant, which allows it to move seamlessly from the fridge to the oven (up to 650 degrees Fahrenheit), and makes it dishwasher safe.

The Baking Slab’s immense beauty is matched by its functionality, with a shape that is wider and longer than most baking dishes and sheet pans to help you score pastry crusts that are crisp and flaky. While this piece is ideal for making pies, it’s also useful for whipping up everything from focaccia and pan pizzas to fudgy brownies. Like the first batch of these beauties, this popular piece is bound to fly off the (virtual) shelves, so snag it while you have a chance and seriously level-up your summer (and fall!) baking.
