Slow-cooked braises can be vegetarian and omnivorian, complex or simple, spicy hot or comfortably mellow. Whatever the recipe, braises fill our homes with mouthwatering aromas and give us something warm to look forward to on cold evenings. Here are all our best and most favorite braising recipes!
Braises are any dish that is cooked low and slow – low temperature over the course of an hour or even longer – until the ingredients are completely tender and the flavors in the dish have melted together into something delicious. You can cook them in a dutch oven on the stove top or in the oven, or you can pop them in your slow cooker and walk away.
One of our favorite things about braises is that they often use low-cost ingredients like bulk dry beans, lean cuts of meat, and tough winter greens. Plus, braised dishes will feed a crowd or give you leftovers for an entire week. That’s some excellent budget eating!
