When we put our old house on the market, it was picture perfect. But it had also been scrubbed clean, literally and figuratively, of any trace that it was a lived-in home

Now that we’re in our new house, not a single part of our home is picture perfect! In fact, our whole first floor is torn up and floor-less. (Long story.) The chaos doesn’t feel like a sanctuary, but as we’re setting up our cozy little corners, our “home” is slowly beginning to emerge.

One spot in particular has been a calming anchor to my often frazzled state: a piece of artwork my 5-year-old son colored last Thanksgiving. I hung it on the fridge right after we closed on the house, and it’s come to represent not only all of the innocence and perspective that we often see in children’s art, but also the promise of the new life we’re building here.

A collection of papers on the fridge is a classic family life tableau for us, and seeing that in our new house feels like a sneak peek to the memories ahead. But, as is often the case, the “signs of life” in our home can quickly turn into unwanted clutter.

Luckily, I recently found a product that makes the best of both worlds possible: a personalized family fridge that’s also clean and orderly. This simple photo frame, which comes in a pack of four, has a fully magnetic backing and a plastic sleeve on the front that allows me to display special artwork without the look of disheveled papers piled all around.

Some fridge art is temporary, and we will end up recycling it after its week or two of glory. (Shhhh! Don’t tell the kids!) But other art is destined for the legacy box. This magnetic frame keeps cherished work safe from dirty hands and curling corners. Plus, it’s super easy to use. Sliding paper into a tight sleeve is never fun. But the frame cover is actually loose enough to easily slip in a page of art. It’s open on the top and the bottom, making it frustration-free with no issues swapping pieces in and out if we wanted to.

While I enjoy fun magnets as much as anybody, they hardly keep the front or side of the fridge looking tidy. Using these magnetic frames eliminates the need for additional magnets to hold things up. The entire sheet of paper is contained within the magnetic frame, so no edges and corners are flapping around and nothing looks askew.

And here’s the best part: This fridge display is not only perfect for showing off artwork, it’s also excellent for holding photos, keeping important papers visible, or using as a dry-erase surface for chore charts and to-do lists. Surprisingly, this simple, versatile magnetic frame helps keep our household in order, even while it allows for expression of what makes us us.
