Last month I packed up and moved all of my things into a new apartment. It all happened within a single day — and man, what a stressful day it was. I went from a four-bedroom with roommates to a studio that’s basically a shoebox in comparison. As my movers continued to make trips up the stairs, my anxiety skyrocketed: For a hot second, it seemed like all of my boxes wouldn’t fit inside the apartment. (Luckily, we managed in the end.)

To make matters worse, I was on a tight deadline. My family was in town to help me move, so we decided to make the most of the short time they’d be there. We were basically unpacking boxes the minute the movers sat them down. (Somehow, we managed to open and discard nearly every box, too.) As you can imagine, it looked like pure chaos. It didn’t feel like home at all — but as soon as I put my rug down, it transformed my whole apartment. It instantly made the space feel larger, cozier, and more put-together. Since then, I’ve been recommending Loloi’s vintage-inspired Sinclair Rug to everyone. Find out why else I can’t get enough of the Joanna Gaines-designed rug below!

What Is the Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines x Loloi Sinclair Rug in Jade/Sand?

Earlier this year, the HGTV star’s Magnolia Home brand joined forces with Loloi, creating an extensive rug (and throw pillow) collection that blends function and style. The Sinclair rug offers Loloi’s standard high-quality construction and Gaines’ traditional, cozy-yet-refined flair. It’s made of power-loomed polyester, a good portion of which is Global Recycling Standard certified. It’s designed to be soft to the touch and just as durable as classic power-loomed carpets. The cherry on top? The rug is machine-washable, so you can place it in high-traffic areas without having to worry about spot cleaning it regularly. Another significant part of the appeal is the distressed pattern that gives an antique air to any space you put it in.

Why I Love the Sinclair Rug

I knew right away that I wanted to use the blank slate of my new apartment as an opportunity to change my decor style. Instead of straight-up boho, which I’ve stuck with for years, my vision evolved into a sort of vintage-boho fusion — and this rug has been the anchoring piece. I’ve ordered a few “distressed” rugs in the past that showed up looking worn in a bad way, but I was relieved to see that this one struck the perfect balance. The green hues are just faded enough that they don’t overwhelm the rest of my decor.

Those who are more concerned with feel will be happy to know that this rug, while on the thinner side, is remarkably soft. It’s so cozy, in fact, that I always take off my socks so I can feel it underfoot. At first, I was concerned that a washable rug meant that comfort would take a backseat, but thankfully I was mistaken. It felt (and looked) just as amazing after tossing it in the washer as it did out of the box. The lack of cushion doesn’t bother me, primarily because it’s so easy to fold and shove into the machine. (And the smooth feel makes up for it too, of course.) This rug could easily go for more, but it’s shockingly budget-friendly — even more so now that it’s an extra 50% off at Wayfair. Run, don’t walk!
