This Limited-Edition Creamy Dip Is So Good, I’ve Already Gone Through 4 Tubs
I’m well aware of how much pumpkin dominates this time of year. Pumpkin pie! Pumpkin spice lattes! But what about representation for our savory pumpkin lovers? It’s easy to get so wrapped up in its earthy and slightly sweet flavor that we often overpower it with plenty of sugar, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and other warm spices. But if you ask me, the best way to enjoy pumpkin is to take the savory route and really let the earthy pumpkin notes shine.
I love pumpkin soups and pumpkin pasta, and my current favorite savory-pumpkin bite is the Little Sesame x Fly By Jing Pumpkin Chili Crisp Hummus; it’s packed with that great pumpkin flavor and a kick of heat from Fly By Jing’s iconic chili crisp.
What’s So Great About Little Sesame x Fly by Jing Pumpkin Chili Crisp Hummus?
Where to begin! I’m a big fan of Little Sesame hummus in general (especially the preserved lemon flavor). I’ve tried plenty of different kinds of hummus over the years, and with exception to the homemade stuff, this is the most creamy and tasty one I’ve ever tried — and it’s store-bought.
Funnily enough, this seasonal hummus is actually not even made with pumpkin, but instead winter squash (fun fact: Many canned pumpkin purées are actually winter squash!), which imparts a surprisingly similar pumpkin taste (and texture). It also contains a mix of organic chickpeas, sea salt, and a hefty dose of Fly by Jing Sichuan Chili Crisp to make a savory-spicy dip that packs a flavorful punch. Even though it features Fly by Jing’s chili crisp, it has a subtle heat that complements the warm, earthy flavors of the pumpkin. It’s one of the best pumpkin-flavored things I’ve had this season.
What’s the Best Way to Enjoy Little Sesame x Fly by Jing Pumpkin Chili Crisp Hummus?
Chips, carrots, cucumbers, crackers, by the spoonful; there’s really no one way to best enjoy this flavorful pumpkin chili crisp hummus.
If you want to make the most out of its bold, bright flavors, I absolutely love turning Little Sesame hummus into a flavorful two-ingredient pasta. I typically cook about 8 ounces of any pasta of my choosing (although a gnocchi would be delicious, too!), reserve about a cup of the starchy pasta water after draining, then add it and the hummus to the pot and mix until emulsified. The result? An incredibly savory, creamy pasta sauce that you’ll never believe comes together in less than 20 minutes.
