Everyone who moves to New York experiences certain challenges in adjusting to the city. Before arriving, I already knew not to freak out when I inevitably saw a rat and to avoid making eye contact with strangers. But one annoyance I wasn’t prepared for was the sheer number of reusable grocery bags I would come to accumulate in such a short amount of time. Coming from a state where plastic bags are the norm, I’d repeatedly forget to bring my own bags when shopping in the city and would thus have to purchase a store-brand bag nearly every trip during my first few weeks here. Suffice to say, if you have a penchant for ugly, logo-ridden totes from Target, Trader Joe’s, or a bevy of other supermarket chains, you’ll find my collection downright enviable.

But, I’m sure you don’t. In fact, if you, too, figure it’s high time to invest in grocery bags that aren’t total eyesores, I have the perfect find for you. The Little Green Change reusable bags from Amazon are so cute, you’ll never forget to bring one along the next time you leave home. And, they come in a pack of five for just $8!

What are the Little Green Change reusable grocery bags?

When in use, these totes look like any other colorful grocery bag. They’re made of a nylon polyester fabric, which Amazon shoppers say is thin but sturdy enough for lighter items. In other words, you might not want to carry soup cans or a gallon of milk in one of these, but produce, snacks, and other packaged items are fair game. What’s more, each bag is water-repellent and sure to last a long time with proper use. You’ll also find its straps to be wide and durable — but not too long, meaning they won’t slide off your shoulder, which is a common conundrum with most other totes. Of course, when you’re done using the bags, they fold super compactly into the cutest little fruit shapes, like a strawberry and a pineapple. The best part is that you don’t have to fold them neatly; simply scrunch up the material, pack it into the fruit-themed pocket, and pull on the drawstring to secure the small bundle.

What Amazon Reviewers Are Saying

Average Rating: 4.2/5

“I love to use these at the farmers market and Trader Joe’s. I also keep one in my purse all the time, just in case! I love that you can just stuff then back into the little attached bag rather than having to take the time to carefully fold it back up, like some other reusable bags. Makes it quick and easy to expand it into a tote or get it all compact and put away.” — EnBee

“I accompanied a friend on a shopping trip a while back. She pulled out one of these awesome little bags, and I was intent on finding some for myself … They are even better than I expected. I like them so much, in fact, that I intend to buy more me. Don’t hesitate to buy these!” — Geekteach

“I ALWAYS leave my reusable bags in the car! I finally bought these because they’re small enough that I can pack two in my purse. They’re the same size as a plastic grocery bag, and they’re nice and strong… I don’t know why I didn’t get these sooner.” — Betty

Whether you grab a pack of reusable bags to gift to friends or pick them up for your next grocery run, for $8, you can’t go wrong. You’ll be able to keep a bag or two on you at all times and not even notice that they’re there, save for when you actually need to bag groceries. Just don’t be surprised if everyone around you wants to know where you got them — that’s as inevitable as seeing a rat in New York.
