I’ve learned so many things from designing kitchens to work for my family of seven. From finally trying out (and loving!) a single basin workstation sink (I’m never going back) to figuring out how to make a well-designed counter-depth fridge be just as functional as a deeper one, I put all my experience into the decisions we made for our current kitchen. 

In addition to the sink and fridge changes, I also incorporated a trash can into the cabinetry, and chose the strongest garbage disposal I could get my hands on. The oven is another new-to-me-appliance — and one of the very best decisions we made for our kitchen. It also happens to be one of 2025’s hottest kitchen appliance trends: an induction range

I’ve used my LG five-burner induction range several times daily for over two-and-a-half years, and I absolutely love it. I honestly don’t see myself ever getting another kind of oven. Here’s why.

  • It heats up so fast. I have five kids, and feeding them is a huge part of my day-to-day. It may seem small, but having pots and pans heat up quickly, and water boil fast, makes such a major difference in the efficiency of our kitchen (and life!).
  • It’s easy to clean. I’ve always opted for electric ovens over gas because glass cooktops are so much easier to clean — you don’t have to deal with the grates and all those nooks and crannies. I swear by Cerama Bryte to keep my stovetop sparkling (but this is what won when The Kitchn editors put four glass stovetop cleaning methods to the test).
  • It’s so smart, it reduces the risk of burns. I really like that I don’t have to worry about hot surfaces on my induction cooktop. Because of the way the induction range heats, the surface won’t be hot unless there is cookware on the “burner” (and for a short time after). In addition, and more obviously, induction ranges don’t have open flames like gas stoves do, reducing the risk of accidental fire in this way, too.
  • I don’t have to worry about gas leaks. Having an induction range powered by electricity rather than a gas range means I don’t have to worry about gas leaks from the stove. This gives me peace of mind — especially when my older children are cooking.
  • It doesn’t compromise indoor air. Gas ranges can produce carcinogenic compounds that aren’t safe to breathe (and are even being banned in some states for this reason). With an induction range, you don’t have to worry about these kinds of indoor air pollutants.
  • It provides an extra surface. I try to avoid setting things on the cooktop of my induction range (it’s glass, after all), but I like having the option to set things on its flat surface if I need to. For example, I sometimes put a cutting board on the cooktop and set my Instant Pot on it to vent so the steam gets sucked up by the hood.
  • It looks good! I love the sleek look of the induction range. The flat, glossy surface feels much less busy than the grates of a gas stovetop. Plus, being able to keep the glass cooktop clean with a quick wipe rather than cleaning up crumbs and spills trapped under grates means that my stove looks pretty clean most of the time.
