These Drawer Pulls (Yes, Drawer Pulls!) Will Change The Way You Organize Your Kitchen
Most people wouldn’t call even the most gorgeous drawer pulls “game-changing.” I mean, they can change the look of a kitchen and make cabinets easier to open, but they’re not usually worth writing home about. These pulls in the photo above? Well, these are different. Because they are beautiful, provide a good grip, AND they’re a great tool for getting (and staying!) organized.
How can that be? Let’s take a closer look, shall we?
See that? The leather straps are stamped, so you can tell what’s behind each panel at a glance!
This brilliant idea comes from Geoffrey and Valerie Franklin, of Walnut Studio, a sleek shop featuring handmade leather goods. They came to it in a roundabout way: “We used to rent [our home] on Airbnb and I had labeled the contents of drawers with a label maker, which was always a big hit,” Valerie says. And when it was time to renovate their kitchen, they knew they wanted to do what they could to make their friends and family feel at home when they visited. So once again, they labeled the drawers — only they classed it up a bit.
“We make our own leather handles and pulls, so we debossed the labels into the leather with brass stamps,” she explains. “The debossing is clearly legible when close up, but not distracting like the label maker stickers are from far away, blending right into the scene.”
Geoffrey and Valerie liked the end result in their own kitchen so much, they decided to sell them as an option on their site. Which means you can buy them for your space. The thing I love most about them is exactly what Valerie pointed out: You can’t really see the text until you get close. And then once you do see it, not only will it tell you where things are, but it will also inspire you to actually put stuff back where it belongs! You wouldn’t dare be so defiant as to put a bowl in the cabinet labeled “Glasses,” would you?
The handles in these photos are The Tilikum and The Morrison (in Natural), which retail for $26 and $21 each, respectively. It’ll cost you an additional $12 for each one you want debossed (with up to 10 characters), so this isn’t a cheap solution (especially if you have a lot of cabinets), but it certainly beats a label maker.
