Landmark Ferry Building May Become Market

The Battery Maritime Building may be turned into an open market, as reported in this morning’s New York Times. The building, a Beaux-Arts landmark at the foot of Manhattan, would house dozens of food stalls, coffee bars, and open seating areas; a veritable “culinary temple.”

The New York City Economic Development Corporation, who is looking for a developer for the project, used words in their request for proposals like “artisanal cheese,” “hand-crafted wines,” “humanely raised grass-fed meats” and “foodies” – it’s the kind of development poetry we like to hear.
